THE STUDIO INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS. REVISED RULES. (1) All subscribers to THE STUDIO are eligible to compete. (2) Designs must be original and not traceable to any existing pattern. New ideas and new treatment, combined with workable detail and arrangement, will be the features considered by the judges. (3) Drawings for competition must be legibly signed with pseudonym only. The Coupon, given on p. xii. with details fully filled in, must accompany each drawing or set of drawings, and must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which is written only the pseudonym of the competitor. As this envelope will not be opened until after the awards have been made, any inquiry should be forwarded in a separate letter. (4) The Proprietor of THE STUDIO reserves to himself the right of withholding all or any of the prizes, provided that, in the unanimous opinion of the judges, the drawings do not fulfil the rules of the Competition, or otherwise are of insufficient merit. He also reserves to himself the right to reproduce in THE STUDIO any of the designs submitted. All prize designs become the property of the Proprietor of THE STUDIO, unless otherwise specified. (5) No design will be returned in any case unless accompanied by sufficient stamps for postage or carriage and packing. The term "sufficient postage" has been fixed at a minimum of sixpence, to cover the cost of packing, &c., unless otherwise indicated. (6) All designs must be sent in packed flat, unless specially excepted in certain competitions. (7) All designs and correspondence thereon to be addressed THE STUDIO, 44, Leicester Square, London, W.C., and marked "Prize Competitions," with the number of the Competition, "A xxv," "B xviii," "C xix," &c., on the outside of the package or letter referring to it. (8) An infringement of any of the above Rules will disqualify a Competitor. THE STUDIO COMPETITIONS CLASS A. DECORATIVE ART. A xxv. DESIGN FOR AN EMBROIDERED HAND-SCREEN. (Particulars appeared in the April Number.) A xxvi. DESIGN FOR A SHOWCARD. Designs, which must be made suitable for reproduction half-imperial size (22 ins. by 15 ins.), to be executed in two or three Colours. The designs must embody the following wording, which must be made very legible:—"Packer's Chocolates, Two ounces for one penny. An ideal combination of quantity and quality. Works: Bristol." Effectiveness of advertisement, simplicity of design, legibility of text, and reasonable cost of reproduction are points which will be especially considered by the judges in awarding the prize. Prize Ten Pounds. The Prize design and its copyright will become the property of the donors of the prize, who also reserve the right of purchasing any of the other designs sent in for £3 each. Drawings, packed flat, to be received at the London office of THE STUDIO, 44 Leicester Square, W.C., by July 1. A xxvii. DESIGN FOR AN EARTHENWARE PLANT POT. The design required is for a pot suitable for cut trees for use in the ornamentation of a garden. The decoration should not be copied from the Italian pots of this character, but should be modern in feeling. The forms may, however, be based upon the Italian designs. The designs should be suitable for pots of from 24 to 30 inches diameter. FIRST PRIZE: Two Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: One Guinea. The design required is for a cottage, the cost of which must not exceed £750 Elevations and plans must be given. FIRST PRIZE: Three Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: Two Guineas. All designs sent in for this competition, whether successful or unsuccessful, will remain the absolute property of the designers.
