THE STUDIO INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS REVISED RULES (1) All subscribers to THE STUDIO are eligible to compete. (2) Designs must be original and not traceable to any existing pattern. New ideas and new treatment, combined with workable detail and arrangement, will be the features considered by the judges. (3) Drawings for competition must be legibly signed with pseudonym only. The Coupon, page AD. XII. with details fully filled in, must accompany each drawing or set of drawings, and must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which is written only the pseudonym of the competitor. As this envelope will not be opened until after the awards have been made, any inquiry should be forwarded in a separate letter. (4) The Proprietor of THE STUDIO reserves to himself the right of withholding all or any of the prizes, provided that, in the unanimous opinion of the judges, the drawings do not fulfil the rules of the Competition or otherwise are of insufficient merit. He also reserves to himself the right to reproduce in THE STUDIO any of the designs submitted. (5) No design will be returned in any case unless accompanied by sufficient stamps for postage or carriage and packing. The term "sufficient postage" has been fixed at a minimum of sixpence, to cover the cost of packing, &c., unless otherwise indicated. (6) All designs must be sent in packed flat, unless specially excepted in certain competitions. (7) All designs and correspondence thereon to be addressed THE STUDIO, 5 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London, W.C., and marked "Prize Competitions," with the number of the Competition, "A xix," "B xii," "C xi," &c., on the outside of the package, or letter referring to it. (8) An infringement of any of the above Rules will disqualify a Competitor. CLASS A. INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS. A. xxxvii. SKETCH DESIGN FOR A GLASS MOSAIC PANEL. (Particulars appeared in the May Number.) A. xxxviii. DESIGN IN COLOURS FOR A CALENDAR. The design, which is to be executed in not more than four colours, must be made suitable for reduction to $14\frac{1}{2}$ inches by $10\frac{1}{2}$ inches. The design must incorporate the following words: "LA UNION Y EL FENIX ESPAÑOLO, COMPAHIA DE SEGUROS. Agentes em Lisboa: LIMA MAYER & FILHOS, 59 Rue da Prata, LISBOA. A Phoenix (the emblem of the Company) must be included in the design. Suitable spaces (which need not be grouped together) to be left for the months. The date of the year (1900) to be included in the design. The character of the design is left to the option of the competitor. The Portuguese names of the months are as follows: Janeiro, Fevereiro, Marco, Abril, Maio, Junho, Julho, Agosto, Setembro, Outubro, Novembro, Dezembro. FIRST PRIZE: Five Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: Three Guineas. The donors of the prizes reserve the right to purchase any of the unsuccessful designs at a price to be arranged hereafter. Designs, which must be made suitable for execution in silver, to include Teapot, Coffee-pot, Sugar-basin and Cream-jug. A publisher's mark is a small design used for the purpose of decorating the title-page or a fly-leaf of a book.
