THE STUDIO INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS REVISED RULES (1) All subscribers to THE STUDIO are eligible to compete. (2) Designs must be original and not traceable to any existing pattern. New ideas and new treatment, combined with workable detail and arrangement, will be the features considered by the judges. (3) Drawings for competition must be legibly signed with pseudonym only. The Coupon, page AD. XII. with details fully filled in, must accompany each drawing or set of drawings, and must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which is written only the pseudonym of the competitor. As this envelope will not be opened until after the awards have been made, any inquiry should be forwarded in a separate letter. (4) The Proprietor of THE STUDIO reserves to himself the right of withholding all or any of the prizes, provided that, in the unanimous opinion of the judges, the drawings do not fulfil the rules of the Competition or otherwise are of insufficient merit. He also reserves to himself the right to reproduce in THE STUDIO any of the designs submitted. (5) No design will be returned in any case unless accompanied by sufficient stamps for postage or carriage and packing. The term “sufficient postage” has been fixed at a minimum of sixpence, to cover the cost of packing, &c., unless otherwise indicated. (6) All designs must be sent in packed flat, unless specially excepted in certain competitions. (7) All designs and correspondence thereon to be addressed THE STUDIO, 5 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London, W.C., and marked “Prize Competitions,” with the number of the Competition, “A xix,” “B xii,” “C xi,” &c., on the outside of the package, or letter referring to it. SKETCH DESIGN FOR A GLASS MOSAIC PANEL. The design required is for a panel 4 ft. 5 in. wide by 7 ft. 9 in. high, intended for a sign for a firm of mosaic workers, to be fixed at a height of 20 ft. It should be bold in treatment, and must introduce the following words: “Mainzer & Co., Ltd., Artists in Mosaic and Parquet.” The prize winner may be entrusted with the carrying out of the full-size cartoon. FIRST PRIZE: Three Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: One Guinea. The donors of the prizes reserve the right to purchase any of the unsuccessful designs at One Guinea each. This issue of The Studio, an illustrated magazine of fine and applied art, features "The Art of 1899. Part I. Some London Exhibitions." It includes numerous color reproductions of artworks and designs, such as studies by J. M. Swan and H. J. Draper, an enamel panel by George Frampton, and furniture designs by G. M. Ellwood. The magazine also announces international prize competitions for industrial designs and book illustrations.
