Colrat writes on the now well-known work of KYAPIL, and there are short articles on the recent work of Mr. ETHELBERT WHITE and Mr. MARK GERTLER. Each artist is represented by a Colour Supplement and selected examples in monochrome. DELACROIX AND THE ENGLISH. There will be an appreciative survey, by Mons. Claude Roger-Marx, of this great artist and important links subsisting between his work and that of Great Britain. PROFESSOR A. P. LAURIE, a pioneer of X-Ray as a tool in the hand of the art critic, writes on REMBRANDT and AUTHENTICITY. Architecture and Decoration are represented respectively by a new school building from America illustrated in conjunction with an epigrammatic and stimulating statement of principles by the architects, and, from France, by a statement of the formation and aims of the new and more radical GROUPE DISSIDENT among Modern French Decorative Artists, by Mons. Jourdain. In addition it is hoped to be able to include an article by SIR OWEN WILLIAMS, whose brilliant engineering-architectural achievements need no introduction either here or abroad. Froissart’s incomparable Chronicles are the narrative of his own times, as he himself saw them and took part in them. Poet, historian, courtier, wit and contemporary of Chaucer, he travelled the length and breadth of Western Europe in search of material for his histories. These miniatures testify how vivid and actual he has made his story to the illuminator of a somewhat later date. The Black Prince and Richard II were among his patrons; and of especial interest to English readers—and to lovers of Shakespeare—are the scenes from the tragic reign of the last of the Plantagenets, “Richard, that sweet lovely Rose.” The whole brilliant, turbulent, many-coloured pageant moves before our eyes. Dr. Coulton, with unrivalled knowledge and with sensitive and scholarly mind, interprets what we see and sets it in its due perspective, telling us such things as we need to know. The student, the antiquarian, the bibliophile, the ordinary reader, will all be the richer for this book; while the teacher will find that, for the young, it brings to life again, in all its magnificent vigour and display, the Climax of the Days of Chivalry.
