THE STUDIO INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS FOR RULES SEE PREVIOUS NUMBERS OF "THE STUDIO." CLASS A.—INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS. Closes March 1. A. XII. DESIGN FOR A LADY'S BELT BUCKLE. (Particulars appeared in the December Number.) Closes April 1. A. XIII. DESIGN FOR A PORTIÈRE. (Particulars appeared in the January Number.) Closes May 1. A. XIV. DESIGN FOR A POSTER. The design to be executed either in black and white or in colours (not more than four) upon double-crown size paper (30 inches by 20 inches). The design must incorporate the words "Queen's Hall, Mr. Schulz-Curtius' Grand Orchestral Concerts;" and space must be left for Names of Conductors and for Dates (three lines in each case). A two-inch space extending the whole width of the design must be left at the foot of the poster for the prices of seats and names of agents. The adaptability of the design for easy reproduction will be taken into consideration in making the award. The donor of the prize reserves the right of holding an exhibition in London of all designs submitted for this competition. Competitors should carefully bear in mind that the concerts to be advertised by the poster are of a highly classical nature and are conducted by Mottl, Levi, Richard Strauss, Weingartner, &c. The drawings, which must be in solid black (or nearly solid), may represent groups, single figures, head or tail pieces; pretty, quaint, or humorous, with or without landscape and accessories. The subjects and size are left entirely to the option of the competitor. The treatment may be modern or of the period when silhouetting was in vogue—i.e., from eighty to a hundred years ago. Competitors may send in as many drawings as they like. FIRST PRIZE: Two Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: One Guinea. The winning designs with their copyrights to become the absolute property of the donor of the prizes, who also reserves the right to purchase any of the other designs with their copyrights at five shillings each. Drawings, packed flat, to be received at the London office of THE STUDIO by May 1. B. XVI. DESIGN FOR A FANCY BOOK-COVER. Drawings to be made in black ink upon white cardboard. Size 8 inches by 6 inches. Blank space to be left for the title of the book. The design should symbolise Christmas or Christmas Merry-making. FIRST PRIZE: Three Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: Two Guineas. The winning designs to become the property of the firm offering the prizes, for whom the Editor reserves the right to purchase any of the unsuccessful designs at one guinea each.
