Lévêque), Saura (P. Gauthier), Ipousteguy (D. Marchesseau), Fromanger (J.-L. Pradel), Weiss (G. Xuriguera) ; dans celui-ci (133-134) : Lapicque (Abadie), Aguayo (Esteban), Bettencourt (G. Bonnefoi), Monory (J.-C. Bailly), Botero (Sarduy), Arroyo (Lascault), Pasotti (J. Pierre), Recalcati (M. Bouisset), Lindström (M. Dittière). J.R. ARNAUD. --- de la figuration (2) This second double issue of Cimaise (133-134) along with the preceding one (131-132), constitutes a report on today's figuration. This figurative movement, which appears to many of us to be a “return” to figuration, has, it seems, always existed, as Ragon reminds us in “The Art of Impure Forms” (No. 131-132). Nevertheless, there have been genuine returns, and Paule Gauthier approaches this phenomenon by means of the study of some concrete examples (De Stael, Hélion, Aguayo and Saura) in her questioning article, “The Return of Abstract Artists to Figuration” (No. 131-132), while in her second article, “New Figuratives and Critical Tactics” (No. 133-134) she masterfully analyzes, in an incisive and often violent, but always exciting manner, the vision of a certain type of criticism of the art movement and the interpretation it gives of it, giving an analysis of the idea of the art concept, its evolution and even its negation. Roger Bordier, for his part (No. 133-134) in “The Word, the Object and the Regard,” raises the problem of reading, or more specifically, of what he calls “the regard.” The regard, first of all, of the artist for the world around him and, we might say, the translation of it in his work, as well as the regard of the spectator which bestows upon a work its liberty. These articles in depth, which constitute the framework of the report, are completed, enriched, illustrated and, in short, figured, by a number of studies devoted to individual artists, in particular in Number 131-132: Gillet (J.-J. Levêque), Saura (P. Gauthier), Ipousteguy (D. Marchesseau), Fromanger (J.-L. Pradel), Weiss (Xuriguera), and, in this number, Lapicque (Abadie), Aguayo (Esteban), Bettencourt (G. Bonnefoi), Monory (J.-C. Bailly), Botero (Sarduy), Arroyo (Lascault), Pasotti (J. Pierre), Recalcati (M. Bouisset), Lindström (M. Dittière). After reading the above articles, it appears evident—though this was not always the case—that the movement, or rather the movements, in painting have not continued in a linear fashion, have not imperturbably, with implacable logic, followed in exultant, dear clean and precise order, but have constituted, on the contrary, a scattered, confused, but ever rich, progression; and yet they form a whole, a coherent and specific sum, which is the justification for reports such as this one. J.-R. ARNAUD.
