Bradshaw Principal of the Press Art School (alongside) founded by him 23 years ago. It is 23 years since I started my Postal Courses in Sketching—the real, vivid sort of work which is wanted by Editors, by Advertisers, by the Press generally. And the best answer I can give to anyone who asks “Can Sketching be taught by Post—particularly in my case as I am only a beginner?” is “Turn to page 20 of my Prospectus and go through the list of famous Artists and Illustrators I have trained.” Pick up any leading illustrated publication and you will find evidence of my Pupils’ work—in the Editorial and Advertising columns. “Punch,” alone, has published over 1,500 Pupils’ sketches to date. If you really wish to Sketch, I can teach you, in your own home, as easily and naturally as a child learns to write. I will start you on simple outlines from Nature and gradually help you on to subjects calling for more skill. Almost before you are aware of it you will find yourself making happy little studies of things about the house, your pets, your friends. Take the three little studies alongside. Even if you have never drawn before, you might find the top-one easy to imitate: the second a little more difficult but the beginner could not hope to do work like the third sketch (by a well-known Pupil of mine). Yet these three sketches are just successive stages in the development of the successful “figure” Artist.
