Every effort will be made to return in due course rejected MSS., and all photographs, etc., rejected or accepted; but in no circumstances can the Editor hold himself responsible for the safe custody or return of such material. Artists and others are urged to submit photographs in the first instance, rather than originals. These should be addressed to "The Editor." Stamps for return should always be sent, and the name and address of the sender must be clearly written on every MS., photograph, etc. All notes and articles should be typewritten. Contributions and specimens of work submitted by hand must be left for consideration at "The Studio" Office for a day or two. The Editor and Editorial Staff CANNOT GIVE INTERVIEWS, except by appointment, for which some definite reason must be adduced. Callers are recommended to leave a concise statement of their business in writing. Open February 14 to 19. — Lectures on February 1, 8, 13 and 22. --- “THE Studio” Year-Book of Decorative Art for 1927 provides, like its predecessors, an unequalled review of the year’s work in every form of domestic architecture, furniture, pottery, metalwork, glassware, textiles, and those minor details of household equipment which form no section by themselves, but which are often lovingly wrought and add a final distinction to the house. The only omission in the list of crafts is that of the garden—a deliberate omission, because the garden is becoming more and more a special study. Modern developments in its culture are in fact so important that “The Studio” has devoted a Special Winter Number to the subject. The new direction of the crafts is oriented from the Paris Exhibition of 1925, an event of far-reaching consequences, to be seen in many different forms. The standards of refined simplicity, the attraction of a style with the solidity of the Empire period but divested of its cumbrous ornament, the adaptation of modern abstract design to the furnishing of the interior, are all qualities which appear not only in Continental work, but also in that of Great Britain where, it is significant to note, several enterprising commercial firms have produced designs directly influenced by the Exhibition. Some delightful new British and American country houses are among the many other interesting features of the year. Sir Lawrence Weaver, famous as an authority on architecture and decorative work, has contributed an introduction. There are 340 illustrations, including 8 plates in colour and 32 pages in photogravure, replete with ideas for the home. English Slipware from Leach Potteries, Cornwall Cut Glass Vase Designed by O.
