'THE STUDIO' INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS. REVISED RULES. (1) All subscribers to THE STUDIO are eligible to compete. (2) Designs must be original and not traceable to any existing pattern. New ideas and new treatment, combined with workable detail and arrangement, will be the features considered by the judges. (3) Drawings for competition must be legibly signed with pseudonym only. The Coupon given on p. xvi., with details fully filled in, must accompany each drawing or set of drawings, and must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which is written only the pseudonym of the competitor. As this envelope will not be opened until after the awards have been made, any inquiry should be forwarded in a separate letter. (4) The Proprietor of THE STUDIO reserves to himself the right of withholding all or any of the prizes, provided that, in the unanimous opinion of the judges, the drawings do not fulfil the rules of the Competition, or otherwise are of insufficient merit. He also reserves to himself the right to reproduce in THE STUDIO any of the designs submitted. All prize designs become the property of the Proprietor of THE STUDIO, unless otherwise specified. (5) No design will be returned in any case unless accompanied by sufficient stamps for postage or carriage and packing. The term "sufficient postage" has been fixed at a minimum of sixpence, to cover the cost of packing, &c., unless otherwise indicated. (6) All designs must be sent in packed flat, unless specially excepted in certain competitions. (7) All designs and correspondence thereon to be addressed THE STUDIO, 44 Leicester Square, London, W.C., and marked "Prize Competitions," with the number of the Competition, "A xxxv," "B xxvi," "C xxxvii," &c., on the outside of the package or letter referring to it. (Particulars appeared in the December Number.) B xxviii. DESIGN FOR A SHOW-CARD. Designs should be suitable for either a show-card or a poster, and may be humorous or not. They may be carried out either in line or in wash, but must be in black-and-white, although a single colour, say red, may be introduced as a flat tint underlying a portion of the design. The design, however, must be complete without the second colour in order to be suitable for reproduction in black only. Designs should measure 10 inches by $7\frac{1}{2}$ inches, or, if larger, should be in the above proportion. They may be either upright or "landscape." If landscape shape, one-fourth to one-third of the superficial area should be left blank for additional advertising matter to be added by the printer. The design must embody the following lettering (which must be distinct and easily read), while a bottle of Stickphast Paste, showing the trade-mark label and cap and brush, may be introduced—"Stickphast Paste for sticking in scraps; 3d., 6d. and 1s. per bottle, with strong, useful brush." FIRST PRIZE: Three Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: Two Guineas. The Editor of THE STUDIO reserves, on behalf of the donors of the prizes, the right to purchase, at One Guinea each, any design sent in to which a prize is not awarded.
