Earp’s article on THE CONVERSATION PIECE, in which the “Subject Picture” is fully discussed. The article is very strongly illustrated (including 3 notable supplements in colour) from the work of such eighteenth century masters of the genre as Zoffany, Stubbs, Devis, Copley and Hogarth, selected from the recent unique exhibition at the house of SIR PHILIP SASSOON. The whole forms a subject of real importance to the Artist and Collector of to-day. KISLING is represented by a number of delightful subjects (one in colour) and a short “personal” article, and CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN PAINTERS are also reviewed. Mons. ROGER-MARX contributes an article on JONGKIND, whose important retrospective exhibition has just been held at the Hague. EARLY AMERICAN INTERIORS Mr. Glassgold provides a fine series of illustrations from the Brooklyn Museum with his article; like the “Conversation Piece,” these reminiscent furnishings form a valuable, if a tacit, comment on the modern effort.
