RULES OF 'THE STUDIO' INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS. (1) All purchasers of THE STUDIO are eligible to compete. (2) Designs and Compositions must be original and not traceable to any existing pattern. New ideas and new treatment, combined with workable detail and arrangement, will be the features considered by the judges. (3) Drawings, &c., submitted for competition must be legibly signed with pseudonym only, and must be accompanied by the Coupon given below, duly filled in and signed. Such coupon must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which is written only the pseudonym of the competitor. This envelope will not be opened until after the awards have been made. (4) The Proprietor of THE STUDIO reserves to himself the right of withholding all or any of the prizes if the rules of the Competition have not been complied with, or if in the opinion of the judges the drawings, &c., are of insufficient merit. He also reserves to himself the right to reproduce in THE STUDIO, or any Extra Number of it, at such a time as he thinks fit, any of the drawings, designs, photographs and other works submitted. Subject to this, the copyright in such drawings, &c., belongs (unless otherwise stated or implied in the announcement) to the competitors sending them, and they are free to dispose of them as they like. (5) All Drawings, &c., including those to which prizes have been awarded (unless otherwise stated), will be returned to Competitors at their own risk as soon as possible after publication of the awards, provided sufficient stamps are sent in the envelope containing the coupon to cover postage or carriage and packing—the minimum in all cases being sixpence. Colonial and foreign stamps will be accepted. (6) All drawings, prints, &c., must be claimed within one month after the publication of the awards (except those sent from remote countries, for which a period of four months will be allowed), failing which they may be disposed of as the Proprietor of THE STUDIO thinks fit. He will under no circumstances hold himself responsible for the loss or damage of any drawings, photographs, &c., in whatever way such loss or damage may arise. (7) All drawings, &c., must be sent in packed flat, except where otherwise expressly stated. (8) All designs, drawings, prints, &c., and correspondence thereon to be addressed THE STUDIO, 44 Leicester Square, London, W.C., and marked "Prize Competitions," with the number of the Competition on the outside of the package or letter referring to it. (9) An infringement of any of the above Rules will disqualify a Competitor, and the decision of the Editor shall be final on all questions arising thereunder. CLASS A. DECORATIVE ART. A xli. (Particulars of the above appeared in the December, January and February Numbers respectively.) A xliv. DESIGNS FOR CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS. The card should consist of a four-page folding cover, $ \frac{5}{8} $ ins. by $ \frac{4}{3} $ ins. oblong, with a folded inset, having on its third page an opening for the insertion of a quarter-plate photograph. Design, including words of greeting, is required for the first page of cover, and should be suitable for printing from blocks in two or three colours and gold, or for embossing. A decorative border design is also required for the third page of inset, leaving an opening $ \frac{3}{8} $ ins. by $ \frac{2}{3} $ ins. for the photographs. A smaller design in one colour may also be submitted for the second page of inset to face photograph. FIRST PRIZE: Three Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: Two Guineas; THIRD PRIZE: One Guinea. Prize designs to become the absolute property of Messrs. FORDHAM & CO., LTD., WALTHAMSTOW, and all designs to reach the London Office of THE STUDIO by May 1. A xlv. DESIGN FOR AN ALMANACK. Two prizes of Eight Guineas and Four Guineas respectively are offered by the Motor Union of Great Britain and Ireland, 1 Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, W., for the best design for a Motor Union Almanack. The Almanack is not to exceed 24 inches by $ \frac{17}{32} $ inches in size, and must be designed for printing in not more than three colours. The Almanack must give prominence to the title and address of the Motor Union as above, and is to include a design for a monthly tear-off calendar for setting forth the principal automobile events of the month. The space to be reserved for this calendar must be not less than one-fourth of the Almanack. Space must also be left for a miniature calendar of the whole year.
