A record of the best work produced in Great Britain and on the Continent of interior decoration, furniture, fireplaces, mural painting, wall papers, stained glass, tapestry, embroidery and needlework, textile fabrics, etc., with names and addresses of each designer. 1913 EDITION. Over four hundred reproductions, including several in colours, of selected examples of the latest and best achievements of European architects. Interior decoration, furniture, wall and ceiling decoration, fire grates, textile fabrics, etc., are fully considered. 1919 EDITION. A guide to the design, decoration, and furnishing of small houses and cottages. ‘Cottages have to be built, and Mr. Sydney R. Jones in a clear and practical article insists on how they should be built, and how they should not. He also illustrates his articles with many charming drawings of cottages, new and old.’ We ought to build new cottages as beautiful as these.’—The Times. 1920 EDITION. The furnishing and decoration of small houses, cottages and flats. ‘It is a book which should be in the hands of everyone concerned today in the building of new houses.’—Bookman. ‘A practical feature is a paper by Mr. Maurice Adams on “Concrete Houses,” which furnishes valuable hints on this method of building construction.’—Yorkshire Post. 1921 EDITION. An important feature of this issue is an interesting article on Haddon Hall—an old English home—with thirty illustrations by Sydney R. Jones. Mr. Baillie Scott writes on ‘Small Country Houses,’ and illustrates the article by some of his most recent designs. Numerous illustrations of furniture, pottery, glassware and textile fabrics, appear in the book. 1922 EDITION. Illustrates the most recent developments in the Decorative and Applied Arts of Great Britain, the Continent, and America. An interesting feature is an illustrated article on the London County Council’s Roehampton Estate, one of the largest and most successful building schemes which have been carried out in this country. In addition to an important article by Mr. Bernard Rackham, M.A. (of the Department of Ceramics, Victoria and Albert Museum), dealing with Old Pottery, the volume deals with Exterior and Interior Domestic Architecture, Interior Decoration, Furniture, Metalwork, Woodcarving, Embroidery, Textile Fabrics, Porcelain and Earthenware. Already distinguished before the war amongst the leading water-colourists of the day, the technique of Mr. Russell Flint seems to have gained in purity, simplicity, and directness, and his most recent drawings have strengthened his claim to a distinctive and secure place in the honour roll of the British Water-Colour School. Y. Cameron has won world-wide fame with his etching-needle and his dry-point, and amongst the leading exponents of British water-colour drawing his name already occupies a place of honour. Oil-painting now occupies him more and more, and year by year his reputation grows as a master of landscape painting. In publishing, therefore, a folio containing eight large reproductions in colours of a representative selection of Mr. Cameron’s paintings, with an Appreciation by Mr. A. J. HOLMES Eight reproductions in facsimile colours by an improved process which renders the quality of the medium more effectually than is possible by the ordinary three-colour process, and dispenses with the necessity of using so-called glossy “art” paper. The position of Sir C. J. Holmes (the Director of the National Gallery) amongst contemporary water-colour painters is unique, for his outlook and technique are distinctly personal; consequently his drawings are much sought after by connoisseurs and collectors. His work is distinguished by the refinement of vision, the truth of statement, and the mastery of the medium which it reveals; and in spite of the originality of treatment there is no trace of mannerism.
