THE STUDIO INTERNATIONAL PRIZE COMPETITIONS REVISED RULES (1) All subscribers to THE STUDIO are eligible to compete. (2) Designs must be original and not traceable to any existing pattern. New ideas and new treatment, combined with workable detail and arrangement, will be the features considered by the judges. (3) Drawings for competition must be legibly signed with pseudonym only. The Coupon, page AD. VIII. with details fully filled in, must accompany each drawing or set of drawings, and must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which is written only the pseudonym of the competitor. As this envelope will not be opened until after the awards have been made, any inquiry should be forwarded in a separate letter. (4) The Proprietor of THE STUDIO reserves to himself the right of withholding all or any of the prizes, provided that, in the unanimous opinion of the judges, the drawings do not fulfil the rules of the Competition or otherwise are of insufficient merit. He also reserves to himself the right to reproduce in THE STUDIO any of the designs submitted. (5) No design will be returned in any case unless accompanied by sufficient stamps for postage or carriage and packing. The term "sufficient postage" has been fixed at a minimum of sixpence, to cover the cost of packing, &c., unless otherwise indicated. (6) All designs must be sent in packed flat, unless specially excepted in certain competitions. (7) All designs and correspondence thereon to be addressed THE STUDIO, 5 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London, W.C., and marked "Prize Competitions," with the number of the Competition, "A xix," "B xii," "C xi," &c., on the outside of the package, or letter referring to it. (8) An infringement of any of the above Rules will disqualify a Competitor. CLASS A.—INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS. A. XI. DESIGN FOR A SECRETAIRE. (Particulars appeared in the November Number.) A. XII. DESIGN FOR A LADY'S BELT BUCKLE. (Particulars appeared in the December Number.) A. XIII. DESIGN FOR A PORTIÈRE. The design, which should not exceed in size 14 inches high by 10 inches wide, must be made suitable for execution in appliqué-work. Drawings to be made in water-colours. The number of colours employed is left to the option of the competitor. FIRST PRIZE: Two Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: One Guinea. Drawings to be received at the London Office of THE STUDIO by April 1. A. XIV. EXTRA. DESIGN FOR AN ADVERTISEMENT. The drawing, which must be executed in black ink upon white cardboard, should be made suitable for reduction to six inches by four and a quarter inches, for insertion in the weekly illustrated papers. The design must incorporate the words: "Heal & Son, 195 to 198 Tottenham Court Road," together with either the words "Bedsteads and Bedding" or the words "Bedroom Furniture." Special attention will be given by the judges to the design and arrangement of the lettering. FIRST PRIZE: Three Guineas; SECOND PRIZE: Two Guineas. The Editor reserves the right to purchase, on behalf of Messrs. Heal & Son, any of the unsuccessful designs at one guinea each.
